Everything about Figure Skating (Minus Anything Much about the Sport Itself)

Figure skating is a sport originating as far back as 3,000 BCE. The concept is simple; individuals, pairs, or groups skate across the ice with a choreographed sequence in mind, performing feats of technicality and artistry with two thin blades on their feet. There are four disciplines within the sport that are universally recognized by the International Olympics Committee (IOC) and the International Skating Union (ISU): Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Pair Skating, and Ice Dancing. Competitions are held all over the world, whether it be held at a local venue for beginners, or on a worldwide stage an ice rink with the whole world watching. With the help of trained coaches (who may or may not have been competitors themselves), they lead their students to the best of their abilities — managing their training regiment, dietary plan, choreographing their newest programs, and everything inbetween to ensure they are prepared for the upcoming season.

But truthfully, this blog isn't here to fill you in on the specifics and intricacies of this wonderful sport. If you really wanted to learn more about types of jumps or how the ISU Judging System works, consult Wikipedia. Rather, this website's purpose is to highlight the Greats that have participated in this sport, to document the dramas and scandals that have shaken up the world of ice skating. To share the cleanest, most artistic short and programs to have graced the screens in the last decade. To scream and vent out our frustrations on the double standards set by the IOC. Think of it not as an informative article, but as an archive.

(And as the website's URL implies, of course it is obligatory to hate on figure skating's cruelest monster — The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing: Eteri Tutberidze.)
